Systematic Review
Abstract in English
This dissertation presents a systematic review, a research framework designed to synthesize evidence through pre-established, organized, and systematic steps. The aim is to examine the effectiveness of the Alexander Technique in addressing musculoskeletal pain and performance anxiety among musicians. The 20th century witnessed significant advancements in neuroimaging techniques, propelling psychology, medicine, and neuroscience into new frontiers. Particularly, neuroscience fostered interdisciplinary approaches and diverse lines of research, emphasizing the cognitive processes of learning. Consequently, a fresh perspective on the conception and analysis of these processes emerged within studies exploring brain processing in learning. This phenomenon can be observed in the field of music, where interdisciplinary proposals merging musical performance and cognitive neuroscience have become integral to the academic production in this domain, giving rise to categories such as performance pedagogy and performance science. However, an analysis of the interplay between musical performance and neuroscience/psychology reveals certain methodological challenges that persist in some studies, impeding the reliability of their findings and conclusions. Thus, to identify, evaluate, and synthesize available evidence within the interdisciplinary theme of musical performance and psychology/neuroscience, a systematic review was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the Alexander Technique in alleviating musculoskeletal pain and performance anxiety. It is anticipated that this framework will also provide methodological guidance for future interdisciplinary research endeavors in the field of musical performance.
