Abstract in English
The aim of this research is to discuss the practices of live sound engineers craft, as well as the evolution of a nonformal continuing education for young live sound engineers in the 1990s. The starting point for this research was the experience and concerns of two professional sound designers, Raul Teixeira and Tunica Teixeira (no kin relations). Resorting to the autobiographical method, a narrative was built on the career of professional sound designers in São Paulo's radio and theater. Thus, such reports on own history combined with the oral history of sound professionals in radio and theater compose a picture of sound design modus operandi in São Paulo in the mid-20th century, on the sets of the TBC (Teatro Brasileiro de Comédia), among others, which somehow can outline the still undefined boundaries of a professional live sound designer. In the context of these narratives, we discuss the current practices and competences of live sound professionals and seek to emphasize their role and relevance as creative artists during an open stage performance
