Abstract in English
The present work aims to understand and discuss the impressions caused by nuclear energy in the Brazilian public opinion. For such purpose, the researcher observed the perception caused by the communication held by the nuclear sector on the public, as well as the level of knowledge of the public about important matters for the segment, such as the several applications of that type of energy across all industries. Also, the researcher aimed to discuss the fear of nuclear power expressed by the population as a heritage of the sector's metanarrative, stained by tragedies such as the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs and the accident of Chernobyl, among others. With that, the research expects to contribute to the sector's ongoing communication practices for there to be an improved dialog with the population. The quantitative study was held with data collection being made with the help of a questionnaire sent by the internet. The researcher obtained 3,894 responses from all regions of the country, having reached 99% of confidence level and 2% margin of error. The main results state that the population fears nuclear power, would not like to live nearby nuclear power plants and would not like to eat irradiated food based on the information they have today. Also, most of the sample believes that the communication held by the sector is unidirectional and inefficient. Furthermore, most of the respondents do not get informed regularly by any means about nuclear energy, but believe nuclear power is clean and expensive.
