O objetivo desta tese é demonstrar a existência do capital social e do reconhecimento em uma iniciativa voluntária da comunidade. A organização estudada foi a Pastoral da Saúde, que faz um trabalho de assistência material e espiritual com enfermos de um município paulista. O método utilizado foi a análise do discurso da vertente inglesa sobre o discurso do sujeito coletivo, obtido através de entrevistas com as voluntárias, caracterizadas como mulheres de meia idade com elevado grau de empatia. Como resultados, foram encontrados atos de fala ilocucionários assertivos, expressivos e expositivos. A existência do capital social e do reconhecimento foi constatada nesta iniciativa, no entendimento das voluntárias.

The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate the existence of social capital and recognition in a voluntary community initiative. The organization studied was the Pastoral of Health, which does a work of material and spiritual assistance with patients in a city of the State of São Paulo. The method used was the English analysis of the discourse about the discourse of the collective subject, obtained through interviews with the volunteers, characterized as middle-aged women with a high degree of empathy. As results, there are assertive, expressive and expository illocutionary acts of speech. The existence of social capital and recognition was evidenced in this initiative, in the understanding of the volunteers.
