Como desdobramento de uma pesquisa de mestrado também apoiada pela FAPESP, esta tese apresenta uma teoria sobre as possibilidades de transformação do estatuto da imagem e de seus modos de fruição a partir da hipertrofia das tecnologias de comunicação e informação digitais, tendo como foco um de seus elementos fundamentais: os algoritmos. Parte-se da construção de um percurso histórico-teórico que busca relacionar o surgimento de tecnologias midiáticas a alterações nos modos de operação e fruição das imagens. A construção desse percurso foi acompanhada por um mapeamento de casos representativos, imagens de naturezas diversas, o que nos levou a estabelecer dois modelos de operação e fruição da imagem: um anterior e outro posterior ao advento do digital. Descrevemos, então, esses dois modelos (formas) a partir do que identificamos como suas origens, características e ressonâncias principais: 1) a forma espetacular, marcada pela frontalidade, a representação e a racionalidade; e 2) a forma algorítmica, articulada pela familiaridade, a expressão e a sensorialidade. A tese se debruça sobre esse segundo modelo, construindo o que se define como um "Atlas" de "imagens algorítmicas" a fim de descrever, sob as perspectivas técnica e filosófica, seus elementos constitutivos. Esses elementos, como sustentamos, seriam não apenas marcas dessas imagens, mas também ressoariam para além delas mesmas como precipitadores de um modus percipiendi outro, expresso em certos fenômenos urgentes de nossos tempos, aos quais nos dedicamos na última parte da tese: a crise da própria noção de imagem (e de espectador), o problema da existência (e da verdade) e a crise da ação política (e de seus gestos).

As a result of a master's research also supported by FAPESP, this thesis presents a theory on the possibilities of transforming the status of the image and its modes of enjoyment from the hypertrophy of digital communication and information technologies, focusing on one of its fundamental elements: the algorithms. This study starts from the construction of a historical-theoretical path that seeks to relate the emergence of media technologies to the changes in the modes of operation and enjoyment of images. The construction of this path was simultaneous with a mapping of representative cases, images of different natures, which led us to establish two models of operation and enjoyment of the image: one before and the other after the advent of digital. We describe, then, these two models (forms) from what we identified as their main origins, characteristics and resonances: 1) the spectacular form, characterized by frontality, representation and rationality; and 2) the algorithmic form, articulated by familiarity, expression and sensoriality. The thesis focuses on this second model, building what is defined as an "Atlas" of "algorithmic images" in order to describe, from a technical and philosophical perspective, its constituent elements. We propose that these elements would not only be traces of these images, but they would also resonate, beyond them, as precipitants of another modus percipiendi, expressed in urgent phenomena of our times, a hypothesis that we explore in the last part of the thesis: the crisis of the notion of image (and of spectator), the problem of existence (and of truth) and the crisis of political action (and its gestures).
