Personagem central da História da Imprensa no Brasil, Luiz Gama inscreveu seu nome entre os pioneiros da comunicação. Fundador do primeiro jornal ilustrado da cidade de São Paulo - Diabo Coxo, em 1864 - e colaborador regular de diversos outros, o abolicionista negro também teve artigos reproduzidos nos jornais da Corte. Esta dissertação analisa de que forma um novo lugar de voz na escrita produzida no Brasil na segunda metade do século XIX inaugura uma autoria negra, observada na obra de Luiz Gama na Literatura e no Jornalismo, e modifica a representação do sujeito negro na mídia. Seu discurso busca promover uma mudança no imaginário social, desnaturalizando a escravidão e restituindo a humanidade ao sujeito negro. O corpus da pesquisa é formado por artigos de Gama publicados em diversos periódicos entre 1864 e 1882. Para a condução do estudo, elegemos articular os conceitos relacionados aos estudos de representação e de autoria negra, os métodos da Análise do Discurso e o paradigma da Afrocentricidade. Trata-se de uma pesquisa documental, em que a comparação e o contraste entre os textos que serviram para dar materialidade aos discursos circulantes também integram os procedimentos de análise. Luiz Gama inaugura uma tensão dicotômica que perdura até os dias de hoje, entre a sub-representação, com a associação de imagens negativas ou mesmo a ausência da população negra no noticiário, e o surgimento dessa figura reumanizada, distante da redução e da estereotipia, um novo discurso possibilitado pela insurgência de uma escrita e de uma voz negras.

Central character of the History of the Press in Brazil, Luiz Gama inscribed his name among the pioneers of communication. Founder of the first illustrated newspaper in the city of São Paulo - Diabo Coxo, in 1864 - and a regular contributor to several others, the black abolitionist also had articles reproduced in the newspapers of the Court. This dissertation analyzes how a new place of voice in writing produced in Brazil in the second half of the 19th century inaugurates a black authorship, observed in the work of Luiz Gama in Literature and Journalism, and modifies the representation of the black subject in the media. His speech seeks to promote a change in the social imaginary, denaturalizing slavery and restoring humanity to the black subject. The research corpus consists of articles from Gama published in several journals between 1864 and 1882. For conducting the study, we elected to articulate the concepts related to studies of representation and black authorship, the methods of Discourse Analysis and the paradigm of Afrocentricity. It is a documentary research, in which the comparison and contrast between the texts that served to give materiality to the circulating speeches are also part of the analysis procedures. Luiz Gama inaugurates a dichotomous tension that persists until today, between under-representation, with the association of negative images or even the absence of the black population in the news, and the appearance of this re- humanized figure, far from reduction and reduction. stereotype, a new discourse made possible by the insurgency of black writing and voice.
