Paralelo ao trabalho de escritor de ficção e de teatro, Antônio Callado atuou nas redações dos mais importantes veículos impressos do país por mais de 50 anos. Foi uma figura engajada e reconhecidamente alinhada a ideologias de esquerda, que se notabilizou pela oposição à conjuntura política da época, cujas consequências foram prisões, inquéritos e a cassação de seus direitos políticos. A pesquisa compreende um estudo sobre dez crônicas políticas do jornalista, publicadas entre os anos de 1964 e 1970 nos jornais Correio da Manhã, Jornal do Brasil e O Pasquim, no contexto da Ditadura Militar. A partir da reflexão sobre o seu percurso como intelectual e profissional da imprensa, a tese se apoia na técnica da análise pragmática da narrativa jornalística e propõe uma compreensão contextual e analítica sobre como o regime militar é representado nesta produção, identificando as diferentes estratégias comunicativas e retóricas empreendidas pelo jornalista. E em sintonia com postulados teóricos da Nova História da Cultura, preconiza que o conjunto dos textos opinativos constituem relevantes fontes, que contribuem para a memória daquele período histórico do Brasil.

In parallel with the work of the fiction and theater writer, Antônio Callado worked in the newsroom of the most importante print media int the country for four decades He was an engaged figure and admittedly aligned withe leftist ideologies, who stood out for his opposition to the political situation at the time, the consequences of which were arrests, inquiries and the impeachment of his political rights. The research comprises a study of tem politican chronicles by journalist published between 1964 and 1979 in the newspapers Correio da Manhã, Jornal do Brasil and O Pasquim, in the context of the military dictatorship. Based on the reflectionn on his career as an intelectual and professional of the press, the thesis is based on the technique of pragmatic analysis of the journalistic narrative and proposes a contextual and analytical understanding of how the military regime is represented in this production, identifying the diferent communicative strategies and rhetoric undertaken by the journalist. And in line with the theoretical postulates of The New History of Culture, recommends that the set of opinion texts constitute sources that contribute to the memory of that historical period in Brazil.
