Nesta dissertação, o objeto de estudo é a interação entre o tesauro e a ontologia no processo de organização do conhecimento no âmbito da Ciência da Informação. Baseado em uma pesquisa de caráter exploratório e revisão bibliográfica, este estudo identificou o conceito como elemento essencial na estruturação do tesauro e da ontologia enquanto Sistemas de Organização do Conhecimento. Foi demonstrado que a Teoria do Conceito e a Terminologia auxiliam na elaboração de tesauros e ontologias a partir do estudo do conceito e dos termos descritores. As categorias filosóficas, as facetas e a hierarquia foram reveladas como outros aspectos que viabilizam a representação do conhecimento. A partir do levantamento teórico realizado foi concluído que a interação entre o tesauro e ontologia qualifica a organização do conhecimento por meio da atuação do conceito na representação do conhecimento e da relação entre conceito e termo descritor na recuperação da informação. A terminologia foi identificada como alicerce para que o diálogo entre a ontologia e o tesauro tenha como resultado um Sistema de Organização do Conhecimento mais completo na organização do conhecimento.

In this work, the object of study is the interaction between thesaurus and ontology in the process of organizing knowledge within the scope of Information Science. Based on exploratory research and literature review, this study identified the concept as an essential element in structuring the thesaurus and ontology as Knowledge Organization Systems. It was demonstrated that the Concept theory and the Terminology assist in the elaboration of thesaurus and ontologies from the study of the concept and the descriptive terms. Philosophical categories, facets and hierarchy were revealed as other aspects that enable the representation of knowledge. From the theoretical survey carried out it was concluded that the interaction between thesaurus and ontology qualifies the organization of knowledge through the performance of the concept in the representation of knowledge and the relationship between concept and descriptor term in information retrieval. Terminology was identified as a foundation for the dialogue between ontology and thesaurus to result in a more complete Knowledge Organization System in the organization of knowledge.
