Nas últimas décadas, o digital passou a intermediar o acesso à arte. Impulsionada pelas Tecnologias da Informação e da Comunicação (TICs), muitas instituições de patrimônio artístico e cultural deram início à disponibilização de suas coleções de imagens de arte na internet. Com um clique, tornou-se possível recuperar não apenas o registro do documento iconográfico, mas o próprio documento, isto é, a imagem de arte. Contudo, muitos registros de documentos iconográficos ainda carecem de metadados descritivos que sejam aplicados à representação temática, dificultando com isso o acesso ao assunto das imagens de arte. Nesse contexto, diferentes padrões de metadados foram desenvolvidos na tentativa de melhor representar os objetos de cultura artística e visual. Diante disso, o objetivo desta pesquisa consiste em analisar como os metadados descritivos dedicados à representação temática da informação iconográfica são aplicados aos registros das coleções digitais de imagens de arte de instituições como museus de arte e bibliotecas. Para isso, adota-se um percurso metodológico que consiste em um estudo exploratório e descritivo de cunho qualitativo e quantitativo onde abordamos aspectos centrais quanto à representação imagética e demonstramos os principais elementos que estão estabelecidos para a representação temática nos padrões de estrutura de metadados levantados. Através da coleta e análise dos registros das instituições selecionadas foi possível discutir a presença dos metadados descritivos empregados na representação temática dos documentos iconográficos de diferentes coleções digitais. Considera-se que a presença dos metadados descritivos destinados à representação temática foram distintas entre os registros analisados, evidenciando assim as diferentes formas de acesso ao assunto entre as coleções digitais de museus de arte e bibliotecas.

In the last decades, the digital has come to mediate access to art. Driven by Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), many artistic and cultural heritage institutions have started to make their art image collections available on the internet. With one click, it has become possible to recover not only the record of the iconographic document, but also the document itself, that is, the art image. However, many records of iconographic documents still lack descriptive metadata that can be applied to their thematic representation, making the access to the subject of these art images more difficult. In this context, different metadata standards were developed in an attempt to better represent the objects of artistic and visual culture. Therefore, this research aims at analyzing how descriptive metadata dedicated to the thematic representation of iconographic information are applied to the records of digital collections of art images from institutions such as art museums and libraries. For this, a methodological approach that consists of an exploratory and descriptive study of a qualitative and quantitative nature is adopted, when we approach central aspects regarding the image representation and demonstrate the main elements that are established for the thematic representation in the metadata structure patterns raised. Through the collection and analysis of the records of the selected institutions, it was possible to discuss the presence of descriptive metadata used in the thematic representation of the iconographic documents from different digital collections. It is considered that the presence of the descriptive metadata intended for the thematic representation was different among the analyzed records, thus evidencing the different forms of access to the subject among the digital collections of art museums and libraries.
