Considerando o contexto social que vivemos, no qual historicamente diferentes grupos são discriminados e alijados de participação e representação é necessário que nos atentemos a forma como a Ciência da Informação se coloca frente a essas situações. Dessa forma, os debates sobre as questões de gênero que agitam o cenário social, tornam-se necessariamente de interesse da Ciência da Informação. A partir de uma perspectiva feminista de ciência, a presente tese tem por objetivo identificar e analisar como a Ciência da Informação aborda as questões de gênero. A fim de alcançar o objetivo geral da pesquisa, busca identificar e analisar a forma de representação dos trabalhos com a temática de gênero e identificar desdobramentos dos debates sobre gênero e ciência em relação às concepções epistemológicas que possam estar presente em campo centrais da Ciência da Informação, como a Organização da Informação e do Conhecimento. A pesquisa parte da hipótese de que é possível propor mudanças de concepções e práticas em busca da equidade nas relações de gênero, raça e classe, considerando que essa busca passa por um debate interno sobre aspectos epistêmicos da área. A revisão bibliográfica dos temas estudo de gênero, epistemologia, epistemologia feminista, estudos de gênero e ética na Ciência da Informação e na Organização da informação e do Conhecimento. A tese analisa a produção científica da Ciência da Informação sobre gênero a partir dos termos de representação atribuídos aos itens que compõem o corpus da pesquisa. Como resultado, verifica-se: a) continuidade de uma linha ascendente da produção científica da Ciência da Informação sobre a temática de gênero, porém, ainda centrada em temas tradicionais da análise como a participação profissional e acadêmica das mulheres, além de uma abordagem voltada à temas tradicionais da análise e linguagens documentárias como vieses e precisão terminológica; b) o surgimento de espaços acadêmicos que buscam garantir a presença e continuidade dessa temática nos debates da área; c) que as discussões sobre gênero e epistemologia na Ciência da Informação, sobretudo no que diz respeito a epistemologia feminista é muito recente. Conclui-se que apesar da produção científica sobre gênero na Ciência da Informação está em linha ascendente, há a necessidade de aprofundar as discussões das questões de gênero na ciência e suas implicações epistêmicas, em especial na Ciência da Informação.

Considering the social context we live in, in which historically different groups are discriminated against and excluded from participation and representation, it is necessary that we pay attention to the way in which Information Science faces these situations. In this way, debates about gender issues that shake up the social scene necessarily become of interest to Information Science. From a feminist science perspective, this thesis aims to identify and analyze how Information Science addresses gender issues. In order to achieve the general objective of the research, it seeks to identify and analyze the way in which works with gender themes are represented and identify developments in debates on gender and science in relation to epistemological conceptions that may be present in central fields of Information Science, such as the Organization of Information and Knowledge. The research is based on the hypothesis that it is possible to propose changes in conceptions and practices in search of equity in gender, race and class relations, considering that this search involves an internal debate on epistemic aspects of the area. The bibliographical review of the topics gender study, epistemology, feminist epistemology, gender studies and ethics in Information Science and the Organization of information and Knowledge. The thesis analyzes the scientific production of Information Science on gender based on the terms of representation attributed to the items that make up the research corpus. As a result, there is: a) continuity of an ascending line of scientific production in Information Science on the topic of gender, however, still centered on traditional themes of analysis such as the professional and academic participation of women, in addition to an approach focused to traditional themes of analysis and documentary languages such as biases and terminological precision; b) the emergence of academic spaces that seek to guarantee the presence and continuity of this theme in debates in the area; c) that discussions about gender and epistemology in Information Science, especially with regard to feminist epistemology, are very recent. It is concluded that although scientific production on gender in Information Science is on the rise, there is a need to deepen discussions on gender issues in science and their epistemic implications, especially in Information Science.
