Discorre sobre o uso dos identificadores persistentes na organização e acesso à informação científica em ambiente digital. Enquanto principal insumo para desenvolvimento da ciência, a informação científica deve ser alvo de processos de representação e organização que propiciem uma recuperação adequada em fontes de informação, garantindo a visibilidade da pesquisa, a de seus autores e suas instituições. Dessa forma, o objetivo é analisar os identificadores persistentes, que são códigos alfanuméricos, como estratégia de representação, organização e acesso à informação científica em ambientes digitais. Por meio de embasamento teórico, realiza-se uma discussão da aplicabilidade dos identificadores persistentes baseada em suas principais características, evidenciando seu papel na otimização do processo de recuperação informacional, embora um único padrão para autores ou instituições ainda não seja amplamente utilizado e difundido na comunidade acadêmica. A análise da utilização de seis identificadores, entre autorais e organizacionais, em 39 bases de dados ou plataformas de conteúdos científicos, em três repositórios de dados de pesquisa e oito repositórios de preprints multidisciplinares, mostra que as iniciativas ainda não são largamente adotadas e a maioria das fontes não apresentam opções de busca por identificadores. Sendo assim, é fundamental a realização de pesquisas que discutam a utilização dos identificadores persistentes e evidenciem a necessidade de fortalecimento de iniciativas únicas, sejam elas autorais ou organizacionais, propiciando uma ampla compreensão e utilização por parte de pesquisadores e instituições, consolidando-se como facilitadores no acesso à informação científica, sobretudo em ambiente digital.

Discusses the use of persistent identifiers in the organization and access to scientific information in a digital environment. As the main input for the development of science, scientific information must be the target of processes of representation and organization that provide an adequate retrieval at information sources, guaranteeing the visibility of the research, as authors and institutions. In this sense, we intend to analyze persistent identifiers, which are alphanumeric codes, as a strategy for organizing and representing information in digital environments for accessing information. Using a theoretical basis, there is a discussion of the applicability of persistent identifiers based on their main characteristics, highlighting their role in optimizing the information retrieval process, although a single standard for authors or institutions is not yet used and disseminated in the academic community. The analysis of the use of six identifiers, between author and institutional identifier, in 39 databases or scientific content platforms, in three research data repositories and eight multidisciplinary preprint repositories, shows that initiatives are still not widely adopted and most sources do not present options for search for identifiers. Therefore, it is essential to carry out research that discusses the use of persistent identifiers and highlights the need to strengthen unique initiatives, for authors or organizations, providing a broad understanding and use by researchers and institutions, consolidating themselves as facilitators of access to scientific information in a digital environment.
