O objetivo central é entender a dinâmica de agentes do agronegócio na busca por informação que subsidie suas atividades econômicas. Leva-se em conta a hipótese de que o uso eficientemente combinado dos meios pode melhorar o nível de informação do público e contribuir para o seu desenvolvimento. O foco se mantém na inter-relação entre os meios tradicionais e os on-line (novos). O primeiro passo foi pesquisar o histórico econômico e político da agropecuária nacional em busca das raízes do atual desenho do agronegócio e dos meios de comunicação que lhe atendem. Na seqüência, procedeu-se a três frentes de levantamento primário de informações. A primeira foi o exame, num período quatro meses, da oferta de conteúdos agropecuários de quatro grandes jornais impressos – Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado de São Paulo, Gazeta Mercantil e Valor Econômico –, reconhecidamente parâmetros de informação agropecuária no País. Posteriormente, foram entrevistados os quatro editores dos respectivos cadernos de agronegócio para saber, entre outros, quais funções esses profissionais pressupunham para suas páginas. A terceira frente se voltou para o público (demanda). Agentes do agronegócio foram entrevistados por meio de dois questionários eletrônicos; do primeiro, participaram 179 e do segundo, 94 profissionais. Note que 100% da amostra usa correio eletrônico. Entre outros resultados, soube-se que a internet, para este público, é o meio mais utilizado e preferido para a obtenção de informações agropecuárias, sendo também o que mais ganhou importância no período de 2000 a 2004. Tais entrevistados mostraram grande desinteresse pelo rádio.

The main purpose of this study is to understand the dynamics of the process of searching agribusiness information by people involved in this sector, who are interested in information that could support their economic activities. It is taken the hypothesis that the efficiently combined use of the means of communication can improve the level of information among readers and also contribute to their progress. The study focuses on the inter-relationship between the traditional means of communication and the new ones (on line ones). The first step was to look for political and economic background of the Brazilian agrarian activity, seeking for the origin of the current agribusiness model and of the means of communication used in this sector. Following, it was proceeded tree fronts of research to collect primary information. The first one was to analyze, during four months, the supply of agribusiness contents in the four major Brazilian press newspapers – Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado de S. Paulo, Gazeta Mercantil e Valor Econômico -, means of communication recognized as reference in agribusiness information in Brazil. Next, the four publishers of the respective agribusiness sections of those newspapers were interviewed in order to understand, among other things, what functions those professionals expected for their pages. The third step was centered on the readers (demand). People involved in the agribusiness were heard by means of two electronic questionnaires. In the first one, 179 professionals participated and, in the second one, 94. It is important to consider that a hundred percent of the samples use e-mails. Among other results, it was observed that the Internet is the preferred means for obtaining agribusiness information, which had most importance in the period of 2000 to 2004. The interviewed professionals have shown no interest for the radio.
