O presente trabalho teve como proposta pesquisar os três espaços da cidade de São Paulo que - devido aos serviços oferecidos à população e à diversidade e dinamismo das atividades propostas - mais têm atuado com as características de centros culturais. O Centro Cultural São Paulo foi concebido para ser uma grande biblioteca pública e teve o seu projeto adaptado a um centro cultural que visava múltiplas atividades. E um departamento que concentra vários serviços da Secretaria Municipal de Cultura, muda seus dirigentes e chefes de divisões periodicamente e recebe muitos jovens, que vão estudar na biblioteca. O Museu Lasar Segall foi constituído para abrigar e divulgar a obra desse artista, tendo sido criado por iniciativa de sua família na casa em que moravam. Além do acervo possui, apesar de suas pequenas dimensões, uma biblioteca especializada e áreas que oferecem propostas participativas aos frequentadores. O museu conta com antigos funcionários para desenvolver suas atividades e sempre sofreu por problemas de falta de verbas, mesmo após sua incorporação pela Fundação Nacional Pró--Memória. O SESC é uma instituição privada que visa ao atendimento do comerciário e especializou-se em lazer. A sua principal unidade cultural é o Centro de Lazer SESC Fábrica da Pompéia, instalada em uma antiga fábrica inglesa restaurada. Em seu inicio realizou propostas de vanguarda e hoje atua como um complexo em que as atividades esportivas e as preocupações assistenciais juntaram-se à área cultural. De cada um dos centros foi descrito o seu histórico e as realizações, a arquitetura, a estrutura organizacional e como se estabelecem as relações entre os funcionários, o centro e os frequentadores. Posteriormente foram feitos estudos comparativos entre os três centros, procurando-se analisar como lidam com os elementos artísticos e culturais e a contribuição que oferecem ao panorama cultural da cidade.

This treatise sets out to examine three sites in the city of São Paulo that due to the services offered to the population and the diversity and dynamism of the activities proposed have assumed the roll of cultural centres. The Cultural Centre of São Paulo was intended to be a public library but was adapted into a cultural center, with the objective of offering a diversity of communal activities. Various services of the Municipal Ministry of Culture are centred here, the director sand departmental supervisers are changed periodically and many young people use the centre to study in its library. The Lasar Segall Museum, founded on the initiative of his family in his old home, was established to house and bring prominence to the work of this artist. In spite of its limited capacity the museum offers a specialized library and activities for the public, as well as a display of the collection. The museum has had the same staff for many years. lt has always suff ered from financial difficulties which have not improved since it became part of the Nationall Foundation Pró-Memória. SESC is a private institution that caters for employers in the commercial field offering leisure facilities. Its main cultural unit is the SESC Pompéia Leisure Centre which was set up in a renovated English factory. At first the Leisure Centre offered many innovative productions of shows and theatre, but today the sports activities and subsidized public services and amenities have been added to the cultural pursuits. Descriptions are given of each of the centres: their aims, achievements, architecture, planning structure and how relationships between the staff, the centre and the public are established. Finally the three centres were compared and analized to see how they deal with the cultural and artistic elements and to evaluate the contribution they offer in the cultural panorama of the city.
