Abstract in English
The aim of this study was evaluate the efficiency of different supplementary cleaning protocols on residual filling material removal of flattened root canals analyzing in microcomputed tomography (MicroCT) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Seventy-two mandibular incisors with flattened root canals were prepared with Easy ProDesign Logic 25/.06 and 35/.05 files and filled with gutta-percha and Sealer 26 by lateral condensation technique. After that, the root canals were retreated with Reciproc R40 and the teeth were divided into six groups, according to supplementary cleaning protocols tested: Group 1: Conventional Irrigation, as control group; Group 2: PUI; Group 3: Easy Clean; Gruop 4: XP-endo Finisher R; Group 5: Clearsonic; e Group 6: Flatsonic. Each tooth was scanned three times in MicroCT: after filling the root canals, after retreatment and after supplementary cleaning protocols. The filling material volume was measured using MicroCT softwares and the root canals walls cleaning were analysed by scores system using SEM images. The results in MicroCT showed the Flatsonic group removed greater filling material than the control group (p<0.05). In the apical third the XP-endo Finisher R group removed significant more residual filling materials than the control group (p<0.05). In MEV analysis, the group PUI showed the best cleaning scores on the dentinal walls in all thirds. None of supplementary cleaning protocolos removed the residual filling materials completely, but the Flatsonic showed be an efficient resource in removal of residual filling materials in cervical and medium thirds of flattened root canals, while the XP-endo Finisher R showed be an efficient resource to remove residual filling materials in apical third.
