Abstract in English
Mediated by the bacterial activity of the biofilm, and a diet with a high content of fermentable carbohydrates, dental caries is the most prevalent disease in the oral cavity in children. Social isolation, adopted to avoid the increase in the number of cases of COVID-19, made children spend more time at home, causing changes from their usual routine to a sedentary routine, due to the frequent use of electronic devices, lack of physical activity, consumption of foods rich in carbohydrates, changes in sleep schedule and restrictions on dental care. Since nutritional habits, hygiene, socioeconomic and cultural level are directly related to the occurrence of caries, this project evaluated these factors through a questionnaire composed of 14 questions with multiple choice options to the parents/guardians of 100 children with the age group between 3-12 years of age in the city of Bauru, in order to later assess the caries risk factors collected in the survey, prepare informative and educational videos focused on improving nutritional habits and adequate oral hygiene to prevent caries in children, which will be sent by WhatsApp. After performing the descriptive and comparative analysis regarding the risk of dental caries n=100 (G1+G2) before and during the restrictive measures adopted by COVID-19, there was a statistically significant difference (p=<0.001); regarding the risk of dental caries between groups (G1 and G2) before and during the restrictive measures adopted by COVID-19, there was no statistically significant difference neither before (p=0.197) nor during (p=0.893); regarding eating habits n=100 (G1+G2) before and during the restrictive measures adopted by COVID-19, there was a statistically significant difference (p=<0.001); regarding oral hygiene habits n=100 (G1+G2) before and during the restrictive measures adopted by COVID-19, there was no statistically significant difference (p=0.109).
