Abstract in English
Faced with the wide diversity of tinnitus interference in different areas of life, characterizing it from the experience lived by the individual, both for research and for clinical practice, is a great challenge. Proposing to evaluate this wide diversity that encompasses tinnitus, there is in the international literature the ''Tinnitus Research Screening Questionnaire (ESIT-SQ)'', a screening questionnaire with standardized questions for patients with tinnitus. Therefore, this study aimed to carry out the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the questionnaire (ESIT-SQ) from North American English to Brazilian Portuguese. For the process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation, the guidelines proposed by Beaton et al. (2000). In the pre-test stage, the ESIT-SQ was applied to 30 patients in a private clinic named Otorrino e Sono in Taubaté/SP, and the results were presented with descriptive measures of central tendency as mean and dispersion as amplitude (minimum values and maximums). The execution of the 6 steps of the proposed translation and cross-cultural adaptation protocol allowed the idiomatic, semantic, conceptual, and experiential equivalences and in the pre-test, all 30 subjects had tinnitus, who answered the questionnaire fully and satisfactorily. No subject had significant doubts regarding the understanding of the questions. Finally, the process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the ESIT-SQ revealed that it is adapted to the cultural reality of Brazilian individuals. The validation step is necessary in a future study, to evaluate the psychometric properties of the questionnaire.
