A educação à distância é considerada uma rica alternativa de aprendizado capaz de superar barreiras físicas entre professores e alunos, ultrapassando problemas como a indisponibilidade de tempo, dificuldades geográficas e relacionadas às árduas rotinas existente para alguns estudantes. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o curso de Levantamento Epidemiológico de saúde bucal da Guatemala, através da participação e o aprendizado dos cirurgiões dentistas, alunos de odontologia e outros profissionais de saúde indicados pelo Conselho Nacional de Saúde Bucal da Guatemala, que foram inscritos no curso realizado à distância. O desfecho esperado com o oferecimento do curso foi tornar os participantes aptos a realizarem o levantamento epidemiológico em saúde bucal, que futuramente será realizado na Guatemala, importante instrumento no auxílio dos planejamentos em ações de saúde bucal. Esta pesquisa se caracterizou pela metodologia quali-quantitativa do curso oferecido em ambiente virtual de aprendizagem (AVA), utilizando-se os recursos da Plataforma Moodle. O estudo foi divido em duas etapas distintas: a primeira delas de caráter quantitativo, com análise de relatórios individuais do progresso e participação dos alunos no curso, mensurando notas e participação em cada módulo; a segunda, compondo o eixo qualitativo do estudo, onde os fóruns de comunicação e fóruns de dúvidas foram analisados através dos instrumentos Comunidade de Inquirição (CoI), análise qualitativa de Minayo e o instrumento de Roblyer e Wiencke. Concluiu-se que ao final do curso, através das avaliações aplicadas e das análises das respostas, observou-se que os alunos possuíam informações suficientes para entenderem o conceito e as etapas de um levantamento epidemiológico, que estavam confortáveis e ambientados com a proposta apresentada para a coleta dos dados que serão realizados, na Guatemala, em momento oportuno, de forma a potencializar o aprendizado à distância, e empoderar os alunos na realização do Levantamento Epidemiológico em Saúde Bucal, importante instrumento para o diagnóstico situacional da população e o planejamento de propostas e ações na área da saúde bucal sustentando políticas públicas.

Distance education is considered a rich learning alternative capable of overcoming physical barriers between teachers and students, overcoming problems such as unavailability of time, geographical difficulties and those related to the arduous routines that exist for some students. The aim of this study was to evaluate the course Epidemiological Survey of Oral Health in Guatemala, through the participation and learning of dentists, dentistry students and other health professionals appointed by the National Council of Oral Health of Guatemala, who were enrolled in the distance course. The expected outcome with the offering of the course was to make the participants able to carry out the epidemiological survey on oral health, which will be carried out in the future in Guatemala, an important tool to aid planning in oral health actions. This research was characterized by the qualitative-quantitative methodology of the course offered in a virtual learning environment (AVA), using the resources of the Moodle Platform. The study was divided into two distinct stages: the first of a quantitative nature, with analysis of individual progress reports and student participation in the course, measuring grades and participation in each module; the second, composing the qualitative axis of the study, where the communication forums and doubt forums were analyzed using the Community of Inquiry (CoI) instruments, Minayo's qualitative analysis and the Roblyer and Wiencke instrument. It was concluded that at the end of the course, through the applied evaluations and the analysis of the answers, it was observed that the students had enough information to understand the concept and steps of an epidemiological survey, that they were comfortable and familiar with the proposal presented for the collection of data that will be carried out in Guatemala, in due course, in order to enhance distance learning, and empower students to carry out the Epidemiological Survey on Oral Health, an important tool for the situational diagnosis of the population and the planning of proposals and actions in the area of oral health supporting public political.
