Diferentes tratamentos térmicos têm sido utilizados no processo de fabricação dos instrumentos endodônticos de Níquel-Titânio com o objetivo de melhorar suas propriedades mecânicas. Porém, esses tratamentos térmicos amaciam a superfície do instrumento, o que pode torná-la mais susceptível ao desgaste e levar a perda precoce da sua capacidade de corte, diminuindo a eficiência de limpeza. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a superfície dos instrumentos Primary dos sistemas WaveOne (WO) e WaveOne Gold (WOG) novos e após múltiplos usos utilizando microscopia eletrônica de varredura de bancada (MEVb) e perfilometria óptica (PO). A altura da lâmina de corte a três milímetros da ponta foi mensurada utilizando PO e a regularidade da lâmina de corte e a presença de microtrincas nos quatro milímetros da ponta nos instrumentos foram avaliadas utilizando imagens obtidas por MEVb. Os instrumentos de cada sistema (n=8) foram avaliados em três momentos: novos (T0), após o preparo de três (T1) e seis (T2) canais mesiais de molares inferiores humanos extraídos. Os dados coletados foram analisados com testes estatísticos pertinentes. O nível de significância adotado foi de p<0.05. O desgaste da lâmina de corte foi significativo após o preparo de seis canais para ambos os sistemas. O desgaste entre T0-T1 e T0-T2 foi significativamente maior no sistema WOG. A formação de microtrincas foi estatisticamente maior no sistema WO que aumentou com o maior número de usos. A presença de irregularidades na lâmina de corte foi maior para o sistema WOG quando comparado ao sistema WO. Pode-se concluir que o desgaste da lâmina de corte após o uso é maior no sistema WOG quando comparado ao sistema WO, que apresentou maior formação de microtrincas após o uso.

Different heat treatments have been used in the manufacturing process of nickel-titanium endodontic instruments in order to improve their mechanical properties. However, these heat treatments soften the surface of the instrument, which can make it more susceptible to wear and lead to the early loss of its cutting capacity, decreasing cleaning efficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the surface of Primary instruments of WaveOne and WaveOne Gold systems new and after multiple uses using tabletop scanning electron microscopy (tSEM) and optical profilometry (OP). The height of the cutting blade at three millimeters from the tip was measured using PO and the regularity of the cutting blade and the presence of microcracks in the four millimeters of the tip on the instruments were evaluated using images obtained by tSEM. The instruments of each system (n = 8) were evaluated at three times: new (T0), after the preparation of three (T1) and six (T2) mesial canals of extracted human lower molars. The collected data were analyzed with relevant statistical tests. The significance level adopted was p <0.05. Cutting blade wear was significant after the preparation of six canals for both systems. Wear between T0-T1 and T0-T2 was significantly higher on the WaveOne Gold system. Micracrack formation was statistically higher in the WaveOne system which increased with the use. Irregularities in the cutting blade were higher for the WaveOne Gold system compared to the WaveOne system. It can be concluded that the wear of the cutting blade after use is higher in the WaveOne Gold system when compared to the WaveOne system, which showed higher microcrack formation after use.
