Abstract in English
Oral squamous cell carcinoma is the most common malignant neoplasm of the oral cavity and characterized by low survival rate an adverse prognosis. Despite the existence of many prognosis and survival markers there is no one considered reliable to predict the behavior of the disease. Aiming to summarize accurately the scientific information on this issue, a systematic review was carried out, searching articles written in English between 2007 to 2017. These articles should have searched for prognosis and survival immunohistochemical markers only by immunohistochemistry. After a literature search in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS and LIVIVO, 2972 articles were separated and inclusion and exclusion criteria applied. After this procedure 362 articles followed for qualitative analysis and risk of bias definition for each article. It was found 128 articles with a high risk of bias, 90 with a moderate risk of bias and 144 with a low risk of bias. These 144 articles describe 148 immunohistochemical markers relevant for prognosis and survival. Among these markers, Ecadherin, Ki-67, ?-catenin and CA9 were markers cited at least three times. The results suggest that the use of the combination of these immunohistochemical markers can be considered as an auxiliary tool to evaluate the prognosis and survival in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma.
