Pacientes com perdas faciais, muitas vezes, perdem a autoestima e a vontade de viver, levando a precariedade a sua qualidade de vida. No decorrer de tratamento reabilitador protético facial estes pacientes apresentam sérios problemas de saúde oral. Porém, não há na literatura estudos específicos que avaliem esta condição. Este trabalho avaliou a saúde oral do paciente com perda facial atendido no Ambulatório da Prótese Bucomaxilofacial da Faculdade de Odontologia da FOUSP, e observou vários dados importantes para traçar o perfil do paciente estudado. Foi utilizada uma avaliação por meio de um questionário baseado nos achados de outros estudos e seleção de perguntas de instrumentos já existentes com aplicação de um estudo piloto. Em seguida, aplicação do questionário final em pacientes com perdas faciais atendidos no ambulatório de Prótese Bucomaxilofacial da FOUSP. Como resultado os pacientes estudados apresentaram idade média de 53 anos, 65,3% do gênero masculino, baixa escolaridade, com perda adquirida patológica em maior número, região da face mais acometida foi a ocular, o tempo médio de uso de próteses intraorais foi de 7 anos, mais da metade dos pacientes consomem bebidas ácidas, 85,7% não fumam e não tem o hábito de roer objetos e/ou unhas. Quanto a percepção de qualidade de vida foi vista que os pacientes acostumam-se a perda mas tem esperança de melhorar a qualidade de vida após a reabilitação. Quanto a saúde oral conclui-se que os mesmos relataram que após a perda facial passaram a ter mais cuidados escovando os dentes melhor, porém relataram que necessitam de tratamento odontológico.

Patients with facial defects often lose self-esteem and the will to live, leading to precariousness of their quality of life. In the course of facial prosthetic rehabilitation treatment, these patients present serious oral health problems. However, there are no specific studies in the literature that evaluate this condition. This study evaluated the oral health of the patient with facial defects attended at the Bucomaxillofacial Prosthesis Ambulatory of the School of Dentistry of FOUSP, and observed several important data to trace the profile of the patient studied. An evaluation was done using a questionnaire based on the findings of other studies and selection of questions from existing instruments with the application of a pilot study. Then, the final questionnaire was applied in patients with facial defects attended at the Buccomaxillofacial Ambulatory. As a result, it was observed that the patients affected with facial defects attended at and Maxillofacial Prosthesis Ambulatory presented poor oral health, but interested in improving it. The patients studied had a mean age of 53 years old, female gender, low educational level, with acquired pathological loss in a greater number, the region of the face most affected was ocular, the average time of use of intraoral prostheses was 7 years. Regarding the perception of quality of life it was seen that patients are accustomed to loss but hope to improve quality of life after rehabilitation. Regarding oral health, they reported that after facial loss they started to have more care brushing their teeth better, but reported that they need dental treatment.
