Cancer in childhood and adolescence is characterized by being a complex process that demands physical, cognitive, psychological, social, economic and religious/spiritual adaptability from the sick person, family caregivers and health professionals. Due to the cancer implications it assumes, it demands different strategies for coping with adversities, one of which is religiosity/spirituality (R/S). This dimension has been described as a sociocultural factor that permeates the health-illness-care process, and it is pertinent to be considered and incorporated into health practices. R/S provides emotional and social support, promotes hope and provides subsidies for coping with critical situations, but it can also be a phenomenon that interferes negatively, especially when it motivates religious-spiritual conflicts and struggles. Considering these aspects, the general objective of this thesis was to investigate the religious/spiritual experiences of children and adolescents with cancer, their family caregivers and the health team involved in providing care. Methodologically, it is presented and divided into seven articles: three studies refer to integrative reviews of the scientific literature, a qualitative study with children and adolescents, a qualitative study with family caregivers, a qualitative study and a quantitative study with health professionals. The integrative reviews followed systematic procedures for searching, analyzing and presenting the data, being carried out in the databases/libraries Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Psychology Information (PsycINFO), Pubmed, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (Lilacs). Qualitative studies were carried out with 15 children and adolescents, 23 family caregivers and 33 health professionals. For data collection, socio-demographic questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were used, applied virtually, audio-recorded, transcribed in full and analyzed through thematic-reflective analysis. The quantitative study was carried out with 81 health professionals, using a sociodemographic questionnaire and four scales (Spiritual Well-Being Scale, Life Satisfaction Scale, Spirituality Self Rating Scale and Abbreviated Religious/Spiritual Coping Scale - CRE - Brief). Descriptive and inferential statistical analyzes were performed. The results of the literature reviews showed the state of scientific production on R/S, highlighting the profile of the studies, the main countries that investigate this theme, the main population addressed in the research, religious and spiritual practices, ways in which R/S is used and possible positive and negative impacts on the physical and mental health conditions of children, adolescents, family caregivers and health professionals, interferences in treatment, in personal and professional experiences. The qualitative study with children and adolescents showed that they manifest faith and behaviors focused on R/S, being a resource that they resort to in the face of stressful situations, which helps in adaptation, offers a sense of security and confidence and to which they are linked in the search to give meaning to what they live. The qualitative study with family caregivers demonstrated that there is engagement, manifestations and use of religious/spiritual objects, and with the illness there was a strengthening of beliefs. The social support received by the religious/spiritual community was important and significant. The results of the quantitative study showed possible associations between depression, stress, anxiety and religious/spiritual coping. It was possible to observe that the participants had high levels of religiosity and spirituality and religious and existential well-being. Attending a religious space contributed to better levels of depression, while not having a religious belief, negative CRE and the presence of severe or extremely severe stress symptoms increased depression symptoms. The main focus of the thesis was the populational triad involved in the treatment of childhood and adolescent cancer, bringing a broad set of perspectives on the subject. The importance of R/S in the Brazilian sociocultural context must be considered, since it interferes with subjectivity, behaviors and, consequently, with life habits and ways of responding to health-disease processes. Understanding the meanings attributed to people's religious and spiritual aspects can guide the planning and implementation of actions that seek to include this aspect in health care, focusing on the care and prevention of psychological illness.
