The waves introduce energy into the coastal regions and influence coastal processes, such as morphodynamics and sediment transport. In addition, several studies have already observed relationships between waves and biota, especially their interactions with the benthic and ichthyological communities. In the present study, the characterization of the wave climate off the island of Trindade was carried out, in addition to the modeling of the waves around it using the numerical model SWAN - Simulating Waves Nearshore. The island of Trindade is located 600 nautical miles from the state of Espírito Santo and has sandy beaches and rocky shores throughout its surroundings, which makes characterizing the wave climate essential for understanding the coastal processes in the region. A series of 14 years of wave data (height - Hs, period - Tp and Direction - Dp) of the southern and northern portions of the island, extracted from the WW3 model was used, from these data it was possible to perform statistical calculations to define the climate of waves in the region, in addition, from the definition of the most frequent scenarios that occurred in the region, it was possible to model the data for the entire surroundings of the Island through SWAN and obtain the distribution of the wave power and orbital velocity near bottom. As a result, it is observed that the prevailing wave height is 1.5-2.0 m, including in the seasonal cycle; the average period was located in the interval between 11 and 12 s and the predominant direction was that of S-SW responsible for 47% of the data. From the results, it can be concluded that sea and swell waves coexist annually. In both sectors, the east waves are predominant of the sea type, while in the other directions (especially south and north) they are predominantly swell. Annually and seasonally, the analysis of the periods that occur most in the region indicate that swell waves are more frequent off Trindade. It was observed that there is variation along the two sectors of the island both in relation to the energy of the incident wave, with the eastern sector having the lowest energy; and in relation to the variation of the orbital velocity of the wave that presents difference according to the change in the direction of the wave and as the significant height of the wave increases. The data indicate that the waves are formed in more distant regions, resulting from the passage of cold fronts coming from the south and southeast. This study is the first to carry out, in addition to the assessment of the wave climate, the modeling of waves for all the surroundings of the island of Trindade, which can provide us with valuable data for the study of the coastal dynamics of this important Brazilian oceanic island.
