Abstract in English
This work undertakes an exercise, at the same time, descriptive and propositional. Its descriptive exercise consists of the presentation of the moral and political thought of the English philosopher Bernard Williams, whose work is still little known in Brazil. Therefore, I describe the general features of his philosophical thought and the central concepts necessary for its understanding. The propositional exercise of this work consists, in turn, in providing a new key to reading Williams' work, from a methodological perspective. My argument is that the unity between Williams's writings on moral philosophy and political philosophy lies in the type of methodology he applies, which gives rise to a very peculiar defense of political realism and liberalism. I demonstrate that without understanding Williams' critique of morality, it is impossible to reach the depth of his political approach and liberal defense.
