Title in Portuguese
A crítica da Crítica acrítica: limites e contribuições da Criminologia do Conflito
Keywords in Portuguese
Criminologia Crítica
Criminologia do Conflito
Sociologia do Conflito
Teorias conflituais da criminalidade

The critique of acritical Criticism: limits and contributions of Conflict Criminology

Critical Criminology
Abstract in English
In 1959 Ralf DAHRENDORF founded Conflict Sociology as an opposition to the consensual approach that theorized about harmonic societies both utopic and inexistent, according to his critiques. The criminologist George Bryan VOLD, influenced by DAHRENDROF'S work, realized that the conflictual criticisms were just as relevant to Criminal Sciences as it was to the Social Sciences. Therefore, VOLD embedded the same new epistemological perspective in his work. His contributions, allied with those of Austin TURK, Richard QUINNEY and Donald BLACK were responsible for creating a new criminological line of though, Conflict Criminology, a School of its own marked by the conflict-centered interpretation of social life as well as an emphasis on the political nature of criminal behavior and criminalization mechanisms. The present study intends to promote a critical analysis of Conflict Criminology's limits and contributions. To do so it is necessary to begin with an analysis of DAHREDORF'S work in order to comprehend how it has affected the criminological studies inspired by it, only then becoming possible to understand the conflictual theories of crime. The present study will adopt a dialectical materialistic approach, inspired by Critical Criminology, a macro-criminological theory that shares the same conflictual premises but surpasses the conflictual theories of crime explanatory capacities as it seeks to understand the foundations of criminal phenomena.
