The motivation of this research arises therefrom, which is the investigation of what are the effects of introducing re-election in Brazil. So as to reach the main object of the study, it will be examined the development of re-election within the scope of North-American presidentialism as well as that of some Latin-American countries in order to analyze Brazilian context subsequently. Under this approach, former and current discussions will be presented - from the perspective of presidential re-election in Brazil - regarding the improvement of Brazilian democracy as well as its institutional model. Having said that, the research aims to answer the following question: is presidential re-election a factor that strengthens vices of Brazilian presidentialism?
