A reeleição presidencial no Brasil é tema da atualidade. As experiências da reeleição para o cargo de chefia do Poder Executivo Federal durante os governos de Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva e Dilma Vana Rousseff possibilitam uma análise do desempenho do instituto no presidencialismo brasileiro. Daí exsurge a motivação da presente pesquisa: investigar quais os efeitos da introdução da reeleição presidencial no Brasil. Para se chegar ao objeto principal do estudo, será examinado o desenvolvimento da reeleição no presidencialismo norte-americano e de alguns países latino-americanos para, em seguida, adentrar no contexto brasileiro. Nessa abordagem, buscar-se-á apresentar, sob a óptica da reeleição presidencial no Brasil, as discussões - de ontem e de hoje - referentes ao aprimoramento da democracia e ao aperfeiçoamento do desenho institucional brasileiro. Isso tudo com o objetivo de responder ao seguinte questionamento: a reeleição presidencial é fator de potencialização de vícios do presidencialismo brasileiro?

The presidential re-election in Brazil is a current issue. The experiences of re-election to the post of Chief Executive Officer during Fernando Henrique Cardoso's, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's, Dilma Vana Rousseff's governments enable an analysis of the performance of the re-election in Brazilian presidentialism. The motivation of this research arises therefrom, which is the investigation of what are the effects of introducing re-election in Brazil. So as to reach the main object of the study, it will be examined the development of re-election within the scope of North-American presidentialism as well as that of some Latin-American countries in order to analyze Brazilian context subsequently. Under this approach, former and current discussions will be presented - from the perspective of presidential re-election in Brazil - regarding the improvement of Brazilian democracy as well as its institutional model. Having said that, the research aims to answer the following question: is presidential re-election a factor that strengthens vices of Brazilian presidentialism?
