O objetivo desta pesquisa consiste em realizar um estudo do populismo, identificando sua natureza e sua manifestação nos Estados democráticos e não-democráticos, paralelamente ao ceticismo que tem assolado a democracia diante da exposição de suas patologias e limitações para traduzir os anseios populares em medidas concretas; promover o delineamento da extensão do fenômeno e apresentar as diferentes configurações com que pode se materializar, assumindo uma orientação vinculada a correntes ideológicas nacionalistas e/ou conservadoras ou progressistas/revolucionárias; e finalmente, analisar os seus efeitos na atual conjuntura política.

The purpose of this research is to examine populism, identifying its nature and its manifestation in democratic and undemocratic states, along with the skepticism that has been destroying democracy in view of the exposure of its pathologies and limitations to turn popular aspirations into concrete measures; outline the extent of the phenomenon and different configurations in which it can materialize, becoming linked to nationalist and/or conservative or progressive / revolutionary ideological oriented currents; and finally, to analyze its effects in the current political conjuncture.
