Abstract in English
In this work, nodular cast irons with high silicon contents were produced and characterized. Two reference alloys and four alloys were developed, varying the silicon content from 3.1% to 5.0%, which were characterized by tensile, impact and hardness tests and microstructural analysis. Subsequently, the alloys with the best combinations of mechanical properties were chosen, and the characteristics involved in the manufacturing process, such as castability and machinability, were analyzed. For these selected alloys, the corrosion test was also carried out. The increase in silicon content positively influenced the tensile characteristics of the studied alloys, reaching values similar to those of the pearlitic alloy, combined with an improvement in machinability. Also showed an increasing fraction of ferrite, proving the ferritizing effect of this element up to a percentage of 3.6%.
