Os desastres relacionados às chuvas ampliam-se em todo o mundo e de forma significativa no Brasil, resultado de uma configuração problemática dos fixos e fluxos sociais no território, da vulnerável inserção espacial da população e do despreparo institucional das políticas públicas e de enfrentamento dos desastres. A observação das práticas sociais na transformação do meio, da interdependência dos elementos da infra-estrutura e da dinâmica social e ecossistêmica, é um aspecto importante para identificar o processo pelo qual o território se fragiliza ensejando desastres, mas é a desigualdade social nas formas de viver e habitar o espaço urbano que diferencia a afetação das populações. Após os danos humanos (feridos, mortos), os danos materiais na residência são os que mais fazem emergir uma insegurança existencial para as famílias, visto que a casa é carregada de significados: ela é território, abrigo, lar, referencial. A situação é agravada quando, numa situação extrema de ameaça ao imóvel, o morador é obrigado a abandonar a sua casa e, muitas vezes, o faz sem o amparo financeiro ou social e tem como única alternativa se dirigir aos abrigos temporários ofertados pelo Estado. Além da perda do patrimônio material, a condição de desabrigo significa a fragilização das redes de relação social e a desfiliação de seu lugar de ser e pertencer. Diante disso, este trabalhou propôs descrever e analisar as dimensões simbólicas dos danos e dos sofrimentos, assim como, das representações sociais de segurança e risco dos desabrigados afetados pelas chuvas nas cidades de Sumidouro e Nova Friburgo, no estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

The disasters related to rainfall expand throughout the world and significantly in Brazil, the result of a problematic configuration of fixed and flows in the social area, of a vulnerable insertion in the urban space and of failure public policies to face the disasters. The observation of social practices which transform the environment, of interdependence between the elements of infrastructure and the observation of social and ecosystem dynamics, are important to identify the process by which the territory become fragile, causing disasters, but it is the social inequality in forms of live and deal with urban space that differentiates the forms of affecting the population. After the humans damages (injuries, deaths), the damages in the home are the main form to bring an existential insecurity for families, since the house is full of meanings: it is territory, shelter, home, reference. The situation is exacerbated when, in an extreme situation the residents are required to leave their home and often they do it without any financial or social support and so, have as the only alternative, go to temporary shelters offered by the state. Besides the material losses, the condition of unsheltered means the weakening of social relations networks and the break with their place of being and belonging. Thus, this work proposed to describ and analyzes the symbolic dimensions of damage and suffering, as well as the representations of social security and risk of the homeless affected by rain in the cities of Sumidouro and Nova Friburgo, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
