Abstract in English
The unbridled consumption associated with the current linear production system sent about 65.3 million tons of urban solid waste to dumps, sanitary landfills and controlled landfills in Brazil in 2020, according to data from the National Sanitation Information System (SNIS). Which represents about 98.05% of the total waste generated, when considering the estimated mass collected for the same period. The finitude of natural resources and the environmental impacts of the current model highlight the need for an emergency change in this context, in which the circular economy stands out for its proposal for sustainable production and consumption by rethinking all the steps that go from manufacturing to disposal environmentally sound waste. In this system, reverse logistics and ecodesign assume prominent roles. This dissertation proposes to map the challenges of waste management in Brazil in the process of transition to an economy, with a view to contributing to sustainable production and consumption patterns. A scope review was performed following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. For the elaboration of the question, the PCC strategy was used. The review registration protocol was carried out in the Open Science Framework organization. The elaborated search strategy was applied in ScienceDirect, Web of Science and Scopus databases, for published sources, and in Google Scholar, Open and websites for gray literature. The search carried out in the database returned 97 studies of which, after excluding duplicity and screening through partial and full readings, 10 published studies were obtained to be mapped. Finally, the work allowed us to verify that there are few specific studies on the subject and that Brazil faces many challenges in its current context of transition to a linear economy.
