Title in Portuguese
Estudo experimental de parâmetros dinâmicos de alguns solos tropicais do Estado de São Paulo
Keywords in Portuguese
solos tropicais

Abstract in English
The shear modulus and the material damping ratio for some tropical soils in the São Paulo State are studied in the present work research. A literature survey and a critica! analysis of the available results related to dynamic tests for brazilian soils were carried out. A serie of cross hole and resonant column tests were performed for tropical soils ocurring in Bauru, São Carlos and Campinas cities. The results obtained with these techniques are confronted and compared wi th those evaluated from empirical relationships which are documented in the geotechnical li terature. The values of maximum shear modulus and the modulus reduction measured were greater than those estimated empirically, mainly for the soils with lateritic behaviour. These disagreements were attributed to genetic characteristics of these soils and unsatured condition, which is quite common in soil masses of tropical regions. New relationships are proposed to estimate the dynamic parameters of the studied soils.
