Abstract in English
The increasing prevalence of urological neoplasms in the Brazilian population has deserved attention. Prostate and bladder tumors stand out in this context, resulting in a greater number of patients referred for treatment at tertiary health care centers, such as Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto. Consequently, the number of outpatient visits, exams, surgical procedures, radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments are increased. Follow-up of cancer patients, when performed in a non-uniform manner, can unnecessarily increase the number of consultations and tests performed, resulting in greater costs, discomfort and risks for patients and health professionals, especially in the context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. On the other hand, an organized follow-up can minimize such damages. This study aimed to develop follow-up protocols for patients treated for bladder and prostate cancer at Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto. The recommendations of international societies (American Urological Association, European Association of Urology, National Comprehensive Cancer Network) were reviewed and adapted to the Brazilian context. Follow-up protocols for patients treated with curative intent for prostate and bladder cancer were developed in a rational way, without compromising the oncological outcome, and made available online for public consultation.
