Abstract in English
According to the International Continence Society, urinary incontinence (UI) is currently defined as "all involuntary loss of urine", which can have repercussions on several aspects of a woman's quality of life. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is any loss resulting from physical exertion and/or increased abdominal pressure, such as jumping, running or coughing. Challenges in understanding the pathophysiology of SUI lead to therapeutic challenges that are being updated over the years. In view of the indication for surgical correction, the correct diagnosis, assessment of the risk of recurrence, of complications and the surgeon's experience are essential. A total of 282 patients who underwent synthetic sling surgery at the Gynecological Surgery Sector, Urogynecology area of the Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) - Ribeirão Preto Campus between 2014 and 2019 were included. The subjective cure rate found was 76.6%, partial cure 11% and therapeutic failure 12.4%. Thus, the subjective cure rate of synthetic sling surgeries performed in the service are compatible with the rates found in the scientific literature, validating the change in protocol that took place in 2011, incorporating the techniques of synthetic sling of the middle urethra in our Hospital.
