Abstract in English
Introduction: Embryonic tumors comprise a large portion of central nervous system (CNS) tumors in the pediatric population, with medulloblastoma being the second most common CNS tumor in childhood. Virtually all children with posterior fossa tumors undergo craniotomy and adjuvant treatment with radiotherapy. Initial assessments of endocrine and cognitive function should be performed during the postoperative period, as craniospinal radiation can adversely affect the pituitary and thyroid glands along with the brain. Objective: will be to evaluate the complications after craniospinal irradiation in children with medulloblastoma treated in the Radiotherapy service of HC-FMRP in comparison with data from the medical literature so far. Materials and methods: Retrospective analysis of data from patients under 21 years of age at diagnosis who underwent radiotherapy with craniospinal irradiation after maximum resection of the tumor histologically confirmed as medulloblastoma in the Radiotherapy service of HC-FMRP during the last 20 years (year 2000 to 2021).
