Abstract in English
Introduction: Material management is important not only from an economic point of view, but also for the organization of work processes in hospital institutions, admittedly one of the most complex to be managed. A major challenge for managers is the sanitation and standardization of the register of medical and hospital materials, which is crucial for the success of material management in hospitals, particularly in high-complexity teaching hospitals. Objectives: to describe the sanitation process of the medical-hospital material register at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, USP and to present the descriptive standard of medical-hospital materials (PDM) used. Methods: This is an applied research, of the action-research type, descriptive, whose collected data were analyzed from a qualitative point of view. Results: 17,228 items of materials from the HCFMRP-USP/FAEPA complex were cleaned, 4212 of which were medical and hospital materials, and 561 PDMs were created. The work developed reinforced the importance of standardizing materials and the strategic advantages of adopting this process for the consolidation of efficient management and made it possible to transform this experience into a positive practical case that will serve as a guide for the process in other institutions, in the same proportion that it expands the quality of the service provided by the hospital studied.
