Abstract in English
Introduction: Systematic tracking, using standardized instruments, of the pattern of consumption of alcohol, tobacco and other psychoactive substances in pregnant women at the beginning of pregnancy, contributes to prenatal guidance and to promote abstinence, favoring the prevention of medical complications pregnancy and childbirth and neurodevelopmental problems and disorders in children. The low literacy or insufficient literacy of the female population regarding the use of alcohol during pregnancy is related to the attitudes that women will adopt during their own pregnancy. Objective: To investigate, through the reports of new mothers, the prevalence of alcohol, tobacco and other psychoactive substances consumption during pregnancy and its relationship with sociodemographic characteristics, pregnancy and childbirth, and level of knowledge or literacy about the consequences of consumption. Population and Methodology: The study design consisted of the secondary analysis of data from the GestaIntervBrev Project, an observational and cross-sectional analytical epidemiological cut, carried out in 2014 on a sample of 160 recent mothers from a maternity hospital in the city of Ribeirão Preto, State of São Paulo . Ethical aspects: this study was carried out in the laboratory of the Center for Research in Clinical Psychiatry and Psychopathology/PAIPAD, in the Area of Mental Health and Psychiatry of Childhood and Adolescence, FMRP-USP, located at HC-FMRP-USP, with its own resources. Results: Lack of gestational planning was associated with AUDIT+ (X2=6.612; p=0.010), lifetime use of illicit drugs (X2=7.237; p=0.007) and tobacco use during pregnancy (X2=4.890; p=0.027). AUDIT+ was inversely correlated with thoracic perimeter (r²= -0.177; p= 0.026). There was no association between exposure to psychoactive substances (ASSIST) with anthropometric and newborn vitality. Conclusion: Literacy-Alcohol Scale proved to be discriminative and was significantly associated with AUDIT and T-ACE scores. Evaluations in future studies will be necessary.
