Define-se a anestesia ambulatorial como o atendimento anestésico destinado a pacientes que necessitam ser submetidos a intervenções cirúrgicas, exames diagnósticos ou procedimentos terapêuticos que não tenham indicação de internação hospitalar. Este trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar o funcionamento da anestesia ambulatorial no Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto sob as seguintes perspectivas: eficácia, desfechos clínicos e satisfação dos pacientes O estudo foi observacional, com caráter descritivo, estratégia de observação longitudinal e prospectiva e com abordagem quantitativa. Os dados foram coletados em formulários próprios, preenchidos pelos pesquisadores, anestesiologistas que conduziram o ato anestésico e pelos pacientes. Seiscentos pacientes foram incluídos. Dez pacientes não concluíram o tratamento sob o regime ambulatorial. Oito deles não tiveram condição de alta hospitalar e foram internados e dois deles tiveram o procedimento postergado por intercorrências no pré-operatório. Um destes tinha a via aérea difícil e necessitava de intervenção cirúrgica para obtenção da mesma e o outro apresentou hipertensão arterial sem sucesso para o controle. Houve baixa taxa de queixas, sendo a dor e o vômito as principais ocorrências. Cento e oitenta e três pacientes devolveram os questionários relativos ao grau de satisfação: 94 % dos pacientes repetiriam o procedimento anestésico sob o mesmo regime e 92 % recomendam o método. Conclui-se que o sistema ambulatorial de cirurgias no HCFMRP-USP é viável para a instituição e para os pacientes, é eficaz, apresenta baixas taxas de complicações e satisfaz os pacientes.

Outpatient anesthesia is defined as the anesthetic care aimed at patients who need to undergo surgical interventions, diagnostic tests or therapeutic procedures that have no indication for hospitalization. This study aimed to evaluate the functioning of outpatient anesthesia at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto from the following perspectives: efficacy, clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. This study was prospective and with a quantitative approach. Data were collected on proper forms, filled out by researchers, anesthesiologists who conducted the anesthetic procedure and by patients. Six hundred patients were included. Ten patients did not complete the outpatient treatment. Eight of them were not discharged and were hospitalized, and two of them had the procedure postponed due to preoperative complications. One of them had a difficult airway and needed surgical intervention to obtain it, and the other had arterial hypertension without success for control. There was a low rate of complaints, with pain and vomiting being the main occurrences. One hundred and eighty-three patients returned satisfaction questionnaires: 94% of patients would repeat the anesthetic procedure under the same regimen and 92% would recommend the method. It is concluded that the outpatient surgery system at HCFMRP-USP is viable for the institution and for the patients, it is effective, has low complication rates and satisfies the patients.
