Abstract in English
Glioblastoma multiforme is considered the most frequent and aggressive of the primary malignant tumors of the central nervous system, corresponding to the fourth most common cause of cancer death. These tumors occur more frequently in males, caucasians and aged between 45 and 70 years old. Despite current treatments, such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the prognosis of patients diagnosed with glioblastoma is considered poor and the vast majority have a survival less than two years, demonstrating the need for additional treatments, as well as new diagnostic approaches to these tumors early. In the last decade, there is an interest in the use of microRNAs as biomarkers in various types of tumors has been highlighted in the literature. The role of miRNAs in the regulation of a wide variety of targets make these small RNAs a promising tool in helping to early detect various diseases which can be explored both in diagnosis and in the development of new therapeutic targets. In recent years, research has also shown the importance of psychological aspects associated with the expectations of patients diagnosed with cancer, as they can influence the prognosis of these individuals. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of miRNAs as biomarkers associated with aspects of anxiety and depression by investigating the expression profile of microRNAs that regulate the serotonergic pathway in the plasma of patients diagnosed of glioblastoma.
