Esta tese tem como objeto de estudo o processo de trabalho em design de João Carlos Cauduro e Ludovico Martino. Busca compreender como foi essa experiência, ao analisar a sucessão de mudanças dos dois arquitetos em relação ao projeto de design desde sua motivação inicial, na procura de repertório, na tessitura de redes sociais e na prática projetual dos anos seminais e nos da maturidade. Também organiza cronologicamente os trabalhos desenvolvidos no escritório Cauduro/Martino ao longo de cinco décadas de existência. A tese enfoca ainda a prática docente de Cauduro e de Martino e a participação deles em associações de classe, relacionando-as à sua atividade profissional. A tese é dividida em quatro partes, uma primeira, referencial, que enfoca os temas da criatividade e o do design e o moderno. E as seguintes, em uma sucessão cronológica, analisam a formação de uma base para o início do escritório Cauduro/Martino, depois os seus primeiros anos de prática projetual e por último o período de maturidade e assentamento.

This thesis has as its object of study the design work process of João Carlos Cauduro and Ludovico Martino, seeking to understand how this experience ocurred by analyzing the sequence of changes of both architects in relation to the design project from their initial motivations, research of repertoire, weaving of social networks and the project practice in their seminal and mature years. It also organizes chronologically the work developed in the Cauduro/Martino office over five decades of existence. The thesis also focuses on the teaching practice of Cauduro and Martino and their participation in class associations in relation with the professional activity. The work is divided in four parts, the first one, referential, about creativity and the design and the modern. And the following ones, in a chronological succession, analyze the formation of the basis for the beginning of the Cauduro/Martino poffice, its initial years and finally the period of maturity and establishment.
