Esta tese de doutorado vem trabalhar com as seguintes questões: mulheres e a produção de Tecnologia Assistiva (TA) através da fabricação digital em ambientes do tipo Fab Lab. Mais especificamente, o ambiente abordado é fruto de uma iniciativa pública de implantação de espaços dedicados à fabricação digital dentro da cidade de São Paulo/SP. Essa interseccionalidade do tema é recente e leva a uma abordagem original em âmbito nacional, na medida em que há uma escassez de literatura nesse sentido. A presente pesquisa tem como intenção explorar as relações das mulheres que compartilham a experiência da deficiência de maneira inerente as mães de crianças com deficiência desenvolvimento de Tecnologia Assistiva (TA) e sua experiência e presença em laboratórios de fabricação digital, visando o desenvolvimento de produtos assistivos aos seus filhos. Dessa forma, estar presente nesses espaços de produção é o tema chave de discussão desta pesquisa. As possibilidades, os impactos e a abertura desses locais para o tipo de público do estudo tornam-se as questões fundamentais de investigação. O trabalho foi desenvolvido através do contato dessas mulheres com a rede pública de laboratórios de fabricação digital Fab Lab Livre SP. Como metodologia deste estudo exploratório-qualitativo, houve a oportunidade de aplicação de métodos exploratórios oriundos da etnografia e da pesquisa narrativa, como imersões em contextos, rodadas de escuta ativa e aplicação de questionários semiestruturados. Cabe ressaltar que a fabricação digital vêm exercendo um importante papel na experimentação e desenvolvimento das tecnologias de apoio às pessoas com deficiência, sendo já visualizadas soluções nessa área por diversos tipos de atores (e.g. grandes empresas, startups e usuários comuns). Entre os achados da pesquisa, encontra-se o fato de que esses espaços têm sustentação dentro de ciclos de apropriação coletiva dos conhecimentos, que transcendem a lógica individual comumente alicerçada sobre a implantação desses locais. Dentro disso, a pluralidade de corpos e mentes deve cada vez mais estar inclusa como fator inerente à construção de ambientes acessíveis e fermentadores de novas ideias, como as trazidas pelas mulheres. Percebeu-se nesses espaços, máquinas e sistemas sociotécnicos a potencialidade voltada às políticas e práticas amadoras de desenvolvimento de produtos na área de TA, historicamente alijadas de parte da população que delas poderiam se beneficiar não negligenciando a necessidade de validação por parte dos responsáveis da área de saúde que acompanham os usuários desses produtos. A jornada das mulheres dentro de tais espaços extrapola-se, então, para além do espaço de apropriação tecnicista das linguagens, indo ao encontro da formação de um corpo de tecnologias sociais baseada também na oralidade, na construção de vínculos e no fortalecimento comunitário dos saberes.

This doctoral thesis addresses the following issues: women and the production of Assistive Technology (AT) through digital fabrication in Fab Lab-type environments. More specifically, the environment addressed is the result of a public initiative to implement spaces dedicated to digital manufacturing within the city of São Paulo/SP. This intersectionality of the theme is recent and leads to an original approach at the national level, as there is a shortage of literature in this regard. The present research intends to explore the relationships of women who share the experience of disability inherently - the mothers of children with disabilities development of Assistive Technology (TA) - and their experience and presence in digital manufacturing laboratories, aiming at the development of assistive products for your children. Thus, being present in these production spaces is the key topic of discussion in this research. The possibilities, the impacts and the opening of these places to the type of public of the study become the fundamental questions of investigation. The work was developed through the contact of these women with the public network of digital manufacturing laboratories Fab Lab Livre SP. As a methodology for this exploratory-qualitative study, there was the opportunity to apply exploratory methods from ethnography and narrative research, such as immersion in contexts, rounds of active listening and application of semi-structured questionnaires. It should be noted that digital manufacturing has played an important role in the experimentation and development of technologies to support people with disabilities, with solutions in this area already being envisaged by different types of actors (e.g. large companies, startups and ordinary users). Among the research findings, there is the fact that these spaces are sustained within cycles of collective appropriation of knowledge, which transcend the individual logic commonly grounded on the implantation of these locations. Within this, the plurality of bodies and minds must increasingly be included as a factor inherent in the construction of accessible environments and fermenters of new ideas, such as those brought by women. It was perceived in these spaces, machines and socio-technical systems the potential geared to amateur policies and practices of product development in the AT area, historically excluded from part of the population that could benefit from them - not neglecting the need for validation on the part of health officials who accompany the users of these products. The journey of women within such spaces, therefore, goes beyond the space of technical appropriation of languages, meeting the formation of a body of social technologies based also on orality, the construction of bonds and the strengthening of community knowledge.
