Abstract in English
This work starts with the assumption that, in spite of the intensive use of computational tools in several phases of the architectural design, the architect's thinking process remains unchanged, and the computer-architect dialogue during the conceptual phase is still incipient. Considering the different possibilities offered by computers concerning creative thinking mediation, the main aim of this work is to investigate the architect's thinking process and the human-machine interface within the scope of CAD programs, in order to detect some of its deficiencies and suggest alternative approaches for future development. Firstly some reflections about the architect's creative thinking are presented, revealing sketching as his principal design tool. The consequences of technological revolution within contemporary society and the new notion of virtual space are also discussed. Finally, based on Human-Machine Interaction concepts, a qualitative analysis of two different CAD packages interfaces was carried out, emphasizing the way they are able to improve / interfere in architect's creative process.
