A tese aborda os espaços livres residuais na periferia da metrópole, como um fenômeno local, particular e característico, vinculado a outro, de ordem geral, respectivo ao território ampliado da Região Metropolitana de São Paulo (RMSP). Defende-se a qualificação destes espaços pela ação participativa de projeto, entendida como ação direta no espaço local de um grupo social organizado segundo um objetivo específico.

The thesis addresses the residual free spaces on the periphery of the metropolis, as a local phenomenon, particular and characteristic, linked to another, of a general order, corresponding to the expanded territory of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (RMSP). The qualification of these spaces is advocated by the participatory project action, understood as direct action in the local space of a social group organized according to a specific objective
