Abstract in English
The history of the paulistano theatrical building is presented in this work aiming to clarify, as much as possible, its relations to beliefs, dramaturgy, and sociopolitical changes. This work shows its origin, when it was only representation, unprovided of buildings, and it brings an approach embracing the first theatres in the city of São Paulo. Then, it analyses more specifically some theatre buildings considered to be architectonical examples of the modernist period. Besides having characteristics of the modern architecture, which was being established in the city of São Paulo, they are important cultural references because of their distribution in the urban mesh. Finally, three other buildings will be studied. Within their stages, great scenic revolutions took place. These theatres took over buildings that were not built for that purpose, therefore, they were adapted for the threatrical purpose. One could say that the new created spaces testified the vanguards that once were the protagonists.
