A atual porção amazônica sul ocidental brasileira apresenta uma real carência de estudos sistemáticos para a compreensão das ocorrências no repertório da produção do espaço construído tanto na escala urbana e regional do país, quanto na dimensão amazônica transfronteiriça e continental. A isso estejam, possivelmente, associados os discursos da inexistência político-institucional efetiva e a inalcançável geografia física dedicados, por parte dos ádvenas e, posteriormente, pelos Estados Nações, ao atual Acre. Soma-se a essas assertivas a configuração de vazios demográficos, por conseguinte, cartográficos, e historiográficos que, conjuntamente, delinearam a inocorrência do Acre até o último quartel do século XIX. A despeito das narrativas naturalizadas acerca da invisibilidade dessa porção brasileira, buscam-se alternativas de interpretação para o objeto da tese a fim de considerar a presença dos povos originários com a ocupação pré-colonial e de seus artefatos que explicitam a massiva presença humana de organização social complexa. Os discursos dos vazios e de inexistências também foram analisados a partir da ocupação e posse das Coroas Portuguesa e Espanhola, assim como a partir das investidas (e falta delas) dos países emancipados: Brasil, Peru e Bolívia, que acirraram um litigioso processo econômico da borracha em fins dos Oitocentos para a definição diplomática da tríplice fronteira, solucionada já no início do século XX. Assim, alguns aspectos antropológicos, arqueológicos, geológicos, geográficos, pré-coloniais, socioeconômicos, culturais, políticos e históricos foram abordados na busca de um entendimento interdisciplinar e abrangente do caso em apreço. O objetivo é compreender, através dos fragmentos documentais e de demais informações, a constituição territorial e urbana do Acre diante dos predominantes e naturalizados discursos e imagens construídos a partir do vazio e da inexistência. Com o estado de conhecimento sobre o tema, várias fontes primárias e secundárias foram buscadas, sejam as nacionais no Pará, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Ceará e Acre, sejam no exterior no Peru, na Bolívia, na Espanha e em Portugal. O intuito dessa vastidão de pesquisa de campos esteve ancorado na constatação da produção historiográfica no Brasil restrita ao uso interpretativo das fontes nacionais, especialmente as da antiga capital, o Rio de Janeiro. Outras vozes e perspectivas foram encontradas para produzir uma síntese que revise as ideias de vazio e inexistências e possibilite outras construções interpretativas, ainda que as informações e as ideias se apresentem escassas e fragmentadas. Da macro escala territorial transfronteiriça, a tese finaliza seus escritos na escala urbana, com uma análise da constituição da rede de cidades, já brasileiras, para a configuração geopolítica do Acre como um Território Federal.

The current southwestern most Brazilian Amazon territory is short in systematic studies to understand the built space repertoire, both in the urban and regional scale of the country, as well as in the transboundary and continental Amazon dimension. This is possibly associated with the discourses of effective political and institutional nonexistence and unachievable physical geography addressed to the current State of Acre; firstly, by foreigners and, later, by nation states. Added to those assertions is the contour of demographic, consequently, cartographic, and historiographic voids that jointly have outlined the non-occurrence of Acre until the last quarter of the 19th century. Despite the naturalized narratives of the invisibility of this Brazilian portion, alternative interpretations for the object of this thesis are looked into in order to consider the presence of the native peoples and their artifacts that explicit a massive human presence and a complex social organization in the pre-colonial times. The discourses of voids and nonexistence were also analyzed considering the occupation and possession of the Portuguese and Spanish crowns, as well as considering the attacks (and lack thereof) of the emancipated countries, Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia, that sparked a complicated rubber-cycle economic process towards the end of the 1800s for the diplomatic establishment of the tri border area whose solution was reached in the beginning of the 20th century. Thus, some anthropological, archeological, geological, geographical, pre-colonial, socioeconomic, cultural, political and historical aspects were addressed in the search for an interdisciplinary and comprehensive understanding of the case at hand. The goal is to understand through documentary fragments and other information Acre's territorial and urban constitution in the face of the predominant and naturalized discourses and images built from the void and nonexistence. Bearing the state of knowledge on the subject matter, several primary and secondary sources were investigated, both in the national territory, Pará, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Ceará, and Acre, as well as abroad, Peru, Bolivia, Spain, and Portugal. The aim of such vast field research has been anchored in the verification of the historiographical production in Brazil restrict to the interpretative usage of national sources, especially the ones from the ancient capital, Rio de Janeiro. Other voices and perspectives were found along the way to produce a synthesis that reviews the ideas of void and nonexistence and makes way for other interpretative constructions, even though the information and ideas are scarce and fragmented. From the transboundary macro-territorial scale, the thesis wraps up its writings on the urban scale, with an analysis of the constitution of the network of cities, already Brazilian, for the geopolitical establishment of Acre as a Federal Territory.
