Destinos da arquitetura, segundo Vitrúvio

Arquitetura greco-romana

Filosofia helenística
Symmetria
Vitrúvio

Abstract in English
The designs of architecture, according to Vitruvius, are also evidenced by their intimate association with the extensive cycle of preparation required by the discipline. Thus, studying how the science of the architect (architecti scientia) is built in De Architectura provides an approach to the author's understanding of the limits of the activity of architecture and the architect's craft. Research on the nature of things (natura rerum) is fundamental to the building art in its handling of bodies, not only of building materials (minerals and vegetables), but of animated beings who make use of shelters and who make up the world. However, the science of the architect is governed by reason (ratio) that finds in symmetry at one time the opportunity for the supreme materialization of his art and the exercise of an ethics. The study of the concatenation of the first three volumes offers a privileged perspective to Vitruvian thought, which is configured as an amalgam of copious instructions and varied doctrines.
