Abstract in English
This research presents an approximation to the modern and contemporary architecture production, focusing on chromaticity and, therefore attempting to understand the main fundamentals adopted by the architects in the definition and use of color on architecture projects. Its goal was to understand the processes of the chromatic development in the projects, its results and unfolding, leading to a chromatic identity. Being one of a mixed nature, the investigation of the architectural works was made using two main approaches: primarily it was qualitative and exploitative, taking into account the experience of going through the buildings to obtain the perception of the space and the chromaticity; then, in a second moment, a quantitative approach was taken, considering the color check data, collected and conducted onsite while making use of materials meant for rating and registering colors. As a methodological outlining, the research started from the chromatic analysis found on the works of the architects crowned by The Pritzker Architecture Prize, following a chronological order: 1988 - Oscar Niemeyer, 1989 - Frank Gehry, 1996 - Rafael Moneo, 2006 - Paulo Mendes da Rocha and 2008 - Jean Nouvel. The second architect awarded in the history of The Pritzker Architecture Prize, in 1980, was Luis Barragán, who was densely studied in this research, which also found a profuse chromatic production in Le Corbusier. Both Barragán and Le Corbusier were great researchers and supporters of the polychrome in architecture and, thus, their productions collaborated fundamentally to this research, which deepened their main theoretical and practical tenets as for using color in their projects. The analysis of the colors on these architects' work provided the possibility to glimpse on multiple scenarios concerning the choosing processes that defined the use of color in the development of the architectural project, executed systemically rather than randomly. The results achieved through the color check data were assembled in graphic registers and organized in files; it also presents the color palettes of the investigated architects, highlighting their technical and aesthetical attributes, and allowing the observation and the verification of the chromatic identity of the authors' work considered.
