Title in Portuguese
Para uma caracterização da pintura contemporânea
Keywords in Portuguese
Pintura (século 20)

Abstract in English
A contribution to artistic production and its appreciation. It considers the employment of the abstract and figurative concepts as a result from the regard that expects to see painting, even nowadays, as a process founded in representation. It intends to demonstrate the emergence of phenomena that happened on the edge of those categories in the course of the XXth century in the work of painters. The Claude MONET, Giorgio MORANDI, Jackson POLLOCK and Willem DE KOONING works testify the experience of painting regarding transformation and the building up of it's place as an experience of this sense. The Bram VAN VELDE work testifies the painting's place as a vital experience of art to mankind. Among the artists who are in process of doing their works: Betty GOODWIN, Susan ROTHENBERG, William MACKENDREE and Sergio FINGERMANN, one finds the experiment of regard transformed in the making of the painting.
