A presente dissertação tem por objetivo trazer ao debate acadêmico uma corrente do pensamento arquitetônico que, apesar de não ter merecido o devido reconhecimento por parte da historiografia da arquitetura, contribuiu de maneira significativa no processo de renovação da fisionomia urbana da São Paulo dos anos 30 deste século: o Art-Déco. Mediante a sistematização de dados coletados em fontes documentais dispersas e um estudo de repertorio que busca identificar os principais elementos de caracterização da linguagem, em sua versão local, o trabalho procura demonstrar que se trata de uma das formas com que o projeto moderno se fez representar no contexto urbano paulistano. Para tanto é apresentado um inventário de 80 exemplares considerado representativos enquanto testemunhos de um momento importante da história da cidade.

The present dissertation aims to bring into the academic debate a trend of the architectural thought that, in spite of not having received the appropriate recognition by the history of the architecture, has contributed significantly to the process of renovation of the urban appearance of São Paulo in the 1930s: the Art Deco. Through the systematization of information gathered from scattered documental sources and a study of repertoire that intends to identify the main elements of language characterization, in its local version, this work tries to demonstrate that this is one of the forms under which the modern project is represented in the paulistano urban context. Therefore, an inventory is shown, with 80 examples which are considered the most representative testimonies of an important moment in the history of the city.
