Keywords in Portuguese
Arquitetura moderna (Brasil)

Abstract in English
The present work intends to outline a comprehensive view of the architecture practiced in the city of São Paulo from the material published in the architecture magazine ACRÓPOLE, created in 1938. In this context, it is attempted to identify the tendencies aiming at the renewal of established architectural values, using ARGANs criteria for the characterization of modern architecture. It is then discussed within which limits it is possible to acknowledge the existence of an effectively modern tendency in the architecture of São Paulo in the years considered, and who its main protagonists are, emphasizing their architectural production as identified in the present research. The study has also shown the importance of the agglutination of these architects around the class corporation (IAB-SP). It is due to this fact that its final chronological mark is the realization of the First congress of Brazilian Architects (January 1945), which, from our point of view, represents the culmination of such efforts and the beginning of a new period in the development of architecture in São Paulo.
