Abstract in English
Dealing with the specific contribution of the Jewish immigration in the inter wars period and its repercussion in the following two decades, in the growing and urbanization of the city of Sao Paulo, the present work intend to contribute to the studies that have been conducted about the immigrants architects. Using the method of the micro-history we trace the trajectory of Lucjan Korngold, the architect of polish origins, since his undergraduate course at the Architecture Faculty of the Warsaw's Polytecnical School, and the experiments associated with the modern movement's development between the 20's and 30's in Poland, where Korngold was involved, both as a witness and participant. The research try also to unveil the claim of his part in the modern architecture heritage of Tel Aviv, Israel, and finish with a survey of his Brazilian production, since 1940, the year of his arrival in the country. The work suggest that Korngold was part of an exclusive group of Polish immigrants coming from a highly intellectualized and acculturated Jewish elite, whose experience as entrepreneurs in Europe, was definitively important in their undertakings in the city of Sao Paulo, and their insertion in the local society.
